Title: Warning about Covetousness
Text: Luke 12:13-21

How many people think their lives consist in the abundance of the things they possess? Their jobs, their retirement plan, their houses and cars? Jesus said it doesn’t (Luke 15:15). In fact, true and eternal life is only found in Jesus Christ.

Today, we join Jesus again as he delivers many warnings about things that can lead us astray or hinder people from being saved. Covetousness is a big one. The word means a desire for more. There are two areas of our lives that tell the condition of our hearts: how we spend our time and how we spend our money. Look at your calendar and bank records, and it will tell you where your affections lie. Jesus said it this way: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Luke 12:34). If our hearts are set on the pursuit of money and possessions, then we will have no room in our hearts for Jesus. Again, He said, “You cannot serve God and mammon” (Matt. 6:24).
